At the writ­ing retreat you will learn:

A small group work­shop ensures lots of per­sonal atten­tion as well as a private con­sulta­tion with Paula to dis­cuss your pro­ject. Each day includes stim­u­lat­ing group ses­sions, writ­ing exer­cises to kick-​​start your cre­ativ­ity and time to write.

The course is suit­able for any­one work­ing on a book length manu­script be it a per­sonal mem­oir, his­tory, mys­tery or some­thing in between. At the end of the retreat you will have a motiv­at­ing and prac­tical plan to fin­ish your book and take it to the next step in your writ­ing journey.

Manuscript Analysis

As part of the work­shop Paula provides a detailed ana­lysis of up to 20 pages of your manuscript.

Participants have the option of a more com­plete manu­script eval­u­ation for $1.50 for each addi­tional page after the first 20. This dis­coun­ted fee is avail­able for one year after the workshop.

Sea Watch Cabins is loc­ated on a privately owned island in Nuchatlitz Provincial Park adja­cent to Nootka Island off the west coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia.

Hosts are long-​​time res­id­ents Shannon Bailey and Brian Witt. Brian’s hand-​​crafted cedar “cabin” is a work of art and Shannon’s deli­cious meals are a high­light of the day.

Lodging is a shared view loft or rooms suit­able for one per­son or a couple. Amenities include solar-​​powered elec­tri­city, run­ning water, an out­door hot water shower and a “rus­tic deluxe” outhouse.

Bonus fea­tures:
Experience the beauty of the pristine wil­der­ness with great oppor­tun­it­ies to view wild­life. You can also take guided hikes through the rain­forest, kayak the sheltered waters near the cabin or explore the wild shores of the open Pacific Ocean.

Capes Escape is sur­roun­ded by seven for­es­ted acres just out­side Courtenay on the east coast of Vancouver Island, B.C. Built in the 1930s, the her­it­age house and prop­erty was donated to the Courtenay & District Museum by Katherine Capes, one of the first female archae­olo­gists in Canada.

About Paula

Paula is the author of a privately com­mis­sioned mem­oir and four books most of which appeared on the Vancouver Sun BC Bestseller list soon after pub­lic­a­tion. She is cur­rently work­ing on The Cougar, Wild, Beautiful and Dangerous.

Throughout her 30-​​year career, Paula has been pub­lished in many peri­od­ic­als includ­ing Beautiful British Columbia, Reader’s Digest and The Beaver: Canada’s History Magazine. Many of her 1,000 plus art­icles have been cover stories.

As a freel­ance writer, Paula has worked for vari­ous edu­ca­tional, cor­por­ate and gov­ern­ment agen­cies such as the Museum of Civilization, BC Ferries and the Comox Valley Airport Commission.
